                    FAXSTREAM DUET - Service Description

This Telstra service provides for a second telephone number to be allocated to an existing telephone line, specifically for use as your separate fax number.

Then whenever a fax is sent to this number, the telephone exchange will generate a special ringing pattern on your line, different to that present for all other calls on your line.

FaxStream Duet is available on most telephone exchanges and is provided at a cost of $6.00 per month (excl GST). This results in a considerable saving over the $23.00 (excl GST)** per month associated with the use of a dedicated fax line.
** approx current line rental excluding handset.

FAXMATE - Product Description

Our Budget FaxMate device will automatically detect this distinctive ring pattern and connect this incoming fax call to your fax device, after the completion of the first ring. Your fax device, which is set to automatic receive, can then answer and connect with this fax call.

FaxMate will also ensure that calls made to your normal number do not ever reach your fax device even though the fax device has been set to automatic receive.

Please Note - A small number of Fax Machines and Fax/Modem devices cannot answer the very short ring bursts associated with the incoming FaxStream Duet ring pattern. Less than 5% of Fax Devices have this problem.

You can test to determine if your Fax Device is suitable for operation with our FaxMate device by connecting it direct to your telephone line, set it to answer mode, and then ring your FaxStream Duet number with a separate telephone line or mobile telephone.

If your Fax Device answers the incoming call, your Fax device is suitable for use with FaxMate.

If your Fax Device does not answer the incoming call, your Fax device is NOT suitable for use with FaxMate. In this situation, you will need to use our DUET SWITCH device, as described separately on this web site. DUET SWITCH also provides other convenient facilities that may also prove useful for your requirements.

Our alternative DUET SWITCH  provides the following additional facilities :

  • Will allow ALL Fax and Modem devices to operate with the FaxStream Duet service.
  • If you have been sharing your normal number with your Fax Machine in the past, then you can expect to continue to receive Fax Calls on your main number. DUET SWITCH will allow you to receive Fax calls that may be sent on your normal voice number.
  • Will allow an Answering Machine that may be integrated with your fax device to take voice messages from your normal voice number.
  • Incorporates a set of FOUR MICRO DIP SWITCHES, which will allow the DUET SWITCH to be specially configured for use with the Telstra Calling Number Display (CLI) service and for other common telephone line sharing applications.

TELSTRA CALLING NUMBER DISPLAY

Telstra Calling Number Display service (also known Carlle ID) is transmitted before the first FaxStream Duet ring. As we normaly do not pass this ring, you will need to either :

1) Turn Dip Switch number 4 to the ON position (located on the underside of FaxMate/Duet Switch).

2) Or, you should fit your CallerID reader to a position other than the Phone port outlet of FaxMate/Duet Switch so that it can receive the CallerID transmission.

ADSL

FaxMate is completely compatible with the use of ADSL on the same telephone line.
